As United Methodists, we have an obligation to bear a faithful Christian witness to Jesus Christ, the living reality at the center of the Church’s life and witness. To fulfill this obligation, we reflect critically on our biblical and theological inheritance, striving to express faithfully the witness we make in our own time.
The Illinois Great Rivers Conference is comprised of all or part of 87 counties in downstate Illinois. The episcopal area known as the Illinois Area was formed in 1960 as the former Central Illinois and Southern Illinois conferences shared a bishop which was located in Springfield. Prior to 1960, the presiding bishop lived in Chicago and presided over the entire state. In 1996, the former Central Illinois and Southern Illinois Conferences voted to merge and formed the Illinois Great Rivers Conference. Within the conference, 10 regional areas (districts) work to deploy pastors and supervise ministry and mission.
Since 1987 WGCA (local radio station) has been more than great adult Christian contemporary music and positive, life-changing daily programming; WGCA promotes unity among Christians by bringing people from diverse backgrounds together under His banner. We work to do this through a fun, upbeat ministry. When you listen to THE MIX, you’ll never hear vulgar lyrics or crude commentary. It’s a radio station that your whole family can listen to and enjoy.
Birthright of Quincy is a non-profit, non-judgmental, non-denominational service organization operated completely by volunteers through donations from our community. The mission of Birthright of Quincy is simple: We are here to offer the non-judgmental person to person help, love, understanding, and basic emotional and practical support that every pregnant woman and girl needs and deserves in order for her to bring her child into the world and beyond. Whether it’s planned parenthood or an unplanned pregnancy, we can help her to mobilize her resources and those of the community in order for her to be able to constructively plan for her future and that of her child. Our goal is to bring positive change to Quincy by helping the distressed, one at a time, get the support they need to make educated and responsible decisions regarding their future and that of their babies. We are not political or controversial, we are just people helping people. We want to ensure women and girls never feel like abortion is their only option.

Under its original name, The Methodist Committee on Overseas Relief (MCOR) was founded in 1940 by the Bishop Herbert Welch, in response to displaced and vulnerable populations in the wake of World War II. In his address at the General Conference that year, Bishop Welch stated that MCOR would serve as a “voice of conscience among Methodists to act in the relief of human suffering without distinction of race, color, or creed.” This mandate remains true to this day. The organization’s name was legally changed to The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) at the 1972 General Conference.
