May 2016 ~ Message from Pastor Woodard

Greetings in the Name of Christ,

Did you know the only time in the Bible God allows, even encourages, us to test him is in tithing? Malachi 3:10: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me to see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have enough room to store it.” God says. Test me – I dare you. Other places in Scripture we are told to not put God to the test and people are rebuked for doing so. With tithing, God welcomes the test so you may discover how much God wants to bless you in return.

I invite you to test God in the matter of financial stewardship. We call giving (tithing) a “spiritual discipline” because it brings about spiritual growth. Yes, your donations support ministry programs, assist people in need, and pay for the expenses of running a church, but God’s  primary concern is helping us cut the cord between us and our money and learning to rely more on him. You may ask, “Give away 10% of my income? Are you nuts? I’ll have to re-examine my entire budget!” Exactly. Tithing forces us to take a good look at how we use that which God has allowed us to earn.

When you write your check to the church, make it a time of prayer. Thank God for what you have. Ask God to help you grow in all the ways that are pleasing to God. At this point you might realize that the Lord has already begun to return the blessings. As you give, everyone is blessed, including you. Thank you for giving to the Lord.

“Freely you have received,” He said, “freely give.” (Matthew 10:8)

      Blessings to you all,

       Pastor Tim
