We have too many wannabe dictators and not enough followers. Bold statement, huh? Yet, all we have to do is look around, listen to what others spout off about, and we see it. Far too many people are trying to tell everyone else what they should do, how to live their lives, and judging them when they don’t.
Now, there are certainly times to provide advice and guidance. Yet not everyone is qualified to do so. I’m not talking about requiring a college degree to give advice. Quite honestly, some of the best advice I have ever received in my life was from someone who did not have a college degree. Their wisdom came from life experience.
Here is what we all need to understand, we are not in control, and we have no right to dictate how someone else lives. There is only One who has the right to do that, and He refuses to exercise his authority in that way. That One is Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords. As the Hebrews writer states, His reign is forever and His scepter is the scepter of righteousness.
We can argue all we want about Jesus. People can reject His authority. They can choose not to follow Him. That privilege is given to them by God. Though God could force all of us to be automatons and follow every command of his, he gives us freewill to choose for ourselves. So, yes, we have the option of rejecting Jesus, but that doesn’t change the truth, which is He is the Son of God, the One who sits on the throne, and the One who will return to judge everyone.
The kingdom of God will reign forever, and has already begun, even in this world full of hatred, disfunction, discrimination, and war. Unfortunately, there are Christians who have not fully grasped the idea that Jesus’s reign has already started. Is it at its final state? No. But He started His reign the day He rose from the dead.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we have a choice, too. We can believe Jesus reigns today and believe He has overcome this world just as He told us He has. Or we continue to live according to what the culture around says and risk falling away. Here’s the truth of the matter. The sooner we come to the realization that we have overcome the world along with Jesus, the sooner we live the abundant life Jesus promised.
Jesus said He would not abandon us, and He hasn’t. He has given us His Holy Spirit to be our guide. We must wake up out of our stupor and start engaging the Holy Spirit to discern how God wants us live. It’s not something we are used to doing and will take time to acquire the skills to hear the Spirit so we can follow his guidance. So, start that journey today.
Hebrews 1:8: But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, and the scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom.
